Subject: Aircraft Carriers (CVs) and Auxiliary Aircraft Carriers (ACVs)-Deck Crashes - Facilities for Handling.

Enclosure:
(A) One copy of reference (b).

     1.    In reply to reference (a), Enclosure (A) is forwarded herewith  (it was not attached).

     2.    The LeTourneau type portable crane has been provided on Aircraft Carriers CV9. It is the intention of the Bureau to provide for all vessels of the CV9 Class, a similar type crane, modified in accordance with recommendations made by the Commanding Officer of CV9. On CV22, the above crane will be provided as an experiment and if found successful will be supplied to all vessels of the CV22 Class. For Auxiliary Aircraft Carriers, the feasibility of providing such a crane is now under study.
