To: The Chief of the Bureau of Ships.
 
Subject:     Concealment of the Wake.   Doc. 56783.
 
Reference:    (a) BuShips ltr. C-PT/S19-7 (348) of July 20, 1942.

        1.   Reference (a) requested that the Vice Chief of Naval Operations advise the Bureau whether or not to conduct experiments on darkening the wake on vessels larger than PT boats.

        2.   In reply to reference (a), the Vice Chief of Naval Operations desires that tests in this matter be limited to PT boats until such time as progress on PT installations has been made to indicate that installations on larger vessels could be made without undue additional weight.

        3.   Development of the installation on PT boats is considered of primary importance.
