      1.      Reference (c) presented the status of manufacture of outside gray paints including comment upon the prospects of receiving ingredients required for the new formulas.

      2.      In connection with the manufacture of the old type gray paint and the black paste, formula 5-BP, to convert the old type gray paint into a shade approximating that of the new dark gray paint, formula 5D, attention is invited particularly to paragraphs 7, 8, 9 and 11 of reference (b).

      3.      As regards the ingredients required for the new formulas which were advertised in Schedule 6503 opened 29 April, the Yard is informed that awards of contracts were made 21 May as follows:

      4.      With respect to the zinc oxide, attention is invited to references (c) and (d) wherein it will be noted that the initial carload of zinc oxide was to be shipped by the contractor to Mare Island on 8 May with the remainder of the material to go forward in carload lots alternately to Mare Island and Norfolk.
