 (A) Revision of Ship Camouflage Instructions
(Ships-2):
Comdts. all Naval Districts - 4 copies each.

      1.    The above enclosure is forwarded herewith for information and guidance.

      2.    The measures prescribed in the first edition of "Ships-2" have been revised in accordance with recent service experience. All measures are new except Measure No. 9 which pertains to submarines. The text has been rewritten completely. A brief discussion has been included of the most recent tests. Recipients of the first edition are requested to remove all of the material from the binder and either destroy it by burning or retain it in the files for reference purposes.

      3.    References (a) and (b) authorized Paint Manufacturing Yards to provide the products required by the measures of the revision (Manufacture of Sea Blue 5-S started in August) and to cease the production of those materials required only by the measures in the first edition which are now rendered obsolete. The measures of the revision will become effective for all ships in commission when directed by the Commanders-in-Chief (The Commanders-In-Chief for the Asiatic, Atlantic, and Pacific fleets can decide when to switch to the new measures). New construction and conversions will be painted as directed in reference (c). Vessels operating under the Chief of Naval Operations except District craft will apply Measure No.12. District craft in commission should be painted to conform with paragraph 9 of reference (c).

      4.    It is requested that the receipt of the above enclosure be acknowledged by letter. The letter acknowledging receipt of the enclosure should be classified as restrictod and the subject publication referred to therein by its short title "Ships-2"
