SUBJECT: Visibility of Ships - Experimental Painting.
 
Reference: (a) CinCPAC conf. ltr. S19/(50) ser. 01391 of September 8, 1941.
(b) Comdesron FIVE Despatch 231725 of August, 1941.
 
Enclosure: (a) Copy of Reference (a)

1.Repainting of ships of Destroyer Division NINE plus PORTER (DD356) will be carried out in accordance with paragraph 2 of reference (a).

2.Commander, Destoryer Squadron FIVE is directed to designate the ships on which the measures listed will be applied. Inform Commander Destroyers, Battle Force and the Flotilla Commander as to the names of the ships designated, with copy to the information adressees. It is noted that Commander Destroyer Squadron FIVE has designated the DRAYTON (DD366) for Measure 1B.

3.Direct ships to excercise care in preparing the surface for painting especially if painting over old dark gray paint. Two complete coats should be applied and sufficient additional paint obtained to permit periodic re-touching after departure from the Navy Yard.
