SUBJECT:     Painting of Ships.

(d) Tentative Instructions for the Navy of the United States governing Maritime and Aerial Warfare, May 1941— Section XVI, Article 119.

        1.       By reference (a), the Bureau of Ships distributed the second revision of Camouflage Instructions (Ships 2), dated July 19, 1942, the following measures of which are hereby placed in effect for the Pacific Fleet:

(a)  Surface ships, less hospital ships—Measure 21. At his discretion, Commander Task Force EIGHT is authorized to prescribe Measure 16 in lieu of Measure 21 for surface ships of Task Force EIGHT. TF8 was a North Pacific group, more about what ships were attached and where they operated can be read here
             (b) Submarines—Measure 9.
(c) Hospital ships—In accordance with reference (d).

        2.       The above instructions supersede references (b) and (c).
