SUBJECT:     Landing Ship, Tank (LST1-490, ex-ATL), Landing Craft, Infantry (Large) (LCI(L)1-350, ex-APY) , Landing Craft, Tank, Mk. V (LCT(5)1-500, ex-YTL) - Assigned to South and Southwest Pacific Force, Camouflage Painting of.

     1.     Reference (b) and (c) requested that certain of the subject vessels assigned to South and Southwest Pacific Forces be camouflage painted in accordance with enclosures forwarded by reference (b).

     2.     It is requested that the camouflage instructions of references (b) and (c) concerning the camouflaging of the Subject vessels which it is definitely known are assigned to South and Southwest Pacific Forces be modified as follows:

      (a) Do not repaint the entire vessel Haze Gray if it has already been painted Ocean Gray.
 
      (b) LCT's and LST's that have been painted with an all over painting of Ocean Gray shall be patterned with dark paint over the Ocean Gray instead of over the Haze Gray as shown in the photographs, enclosures (A), (B) and (C) of reference (b).

SUBJECT:     Landing Ship, Tank (LST1-490, ex-ATL), Landing Craft, Infantry (Large) (LCI(L)1-350, ex-APY) , Landing Craft, Tank, Mk. V (LCT(5)1-500, ex-YTL) - Assigned to South and Southwest Pacific Force, Camouflage Painting of.

      (c) As soon as 5-GTM (a new green alkyd base tinting material) can be procured, the Haze Gray, Ocean Gray and Navy Blue paints specified for LCT's, LCI's and LST's assigned to South and Southwest Pacific, camouflage patterns shall be replaced by Haze Green, Ocean Green and Navy Green. (This applies only, repeat only, to the camouflage patterns specified for the subject vessels assigned to South and Southwest Pacific Forces).

     3.     It is pointed out that Haze Green is exactly as light a color as Haze Gray, Ocean Green as light a color as Ocean Gray and Navy Green exactly as dark a color as Navy Blue.

     4.     The foregoing green color paints are made by mixing a new alkyd base tinting material (5GTM) with white (5-U) or by mixing 5-GTM with 5-U and (the blue-black tinting material) 5-TMa when darker shades are required.
