Subject: Countershading of all Vessels Excluding Submarines.
Reference:     (a)  BuShips Conf. ltr C-S19-7(631) over C-EN28/ A2-11 of 25 March 1944.

     1.      Reference (a) is Quoted for information:

"Ref:        (a) CINCPAC conf. ltr. 26Cl-43 dated 8 Oct. 1943.

"1.          Supplementing existing camouflage instructions, it is desired that the under sides of all exterior over-hanging horizontal surfaces be painted white, formula 5-U. It is also desired that all vertical surfaces and the overhead of deep recesses be painted white. The deck area, in way of such recesses, should be painted Deck Blue in accordance with existing instructions.

"2.          The foregoing instructions are applicable to all vessels under construction or conversion and to vessels in service on which camouflage measures are applied, irrespective of the measure which is used, except that they are not applicable to submarines.

"3.          This procedure constitutes a minimum amount of countershading which is considered necessary. Additional countershading instructions applicable to vessels requiring pattern camouflage measures will be forwarded with the working
