PACIFIC FLEET CONFIDENTIAL LETTER 26CL-43.

Subject: Camouflage of Ships.
 
Reference: (a)  BuShips conf. ltr. C-A10/S19(4) (340-348) C-EN-28/A2-11 of 14 May 1943.
(b) Pacific Fleet Confidential Memorandum 34CM-42.
(c) Pacific Fleet Confidential Memorandum 3CM-43.
(d) Tentative Instructions for the Navy of the United States Governing Maritime and Aerial Warfare, May 1941—Section XVI, Article 119.

1.References (b) and (c) are cancelled and superseded by this letter.

2.By reference (a) the Bureau of Ships distributed "Supplement to Ship Camouflage Instructions (Ships-2)" incorporating pattern camouflage measures.

3.Measures 31, 32 and 33 are hereby placed in effect for the Pacific Fleet with the following exceptions:

(a) Submarines will retain Measure 9.

(b) Hospital ships will continue to be painted in accordance with reference (d).

4.Upon receipt of detailed working drawings, which will be provided by the Bureau of Ships, painting of pattern measures will be accomplished by navy yards, repair bases, tenders or ship's force as circumstances dictate.

5.Pending receipt of detailed working drawings, vessels will remain painted in accordance with references (b) and (c).

6.Camouflage of the Pacific Fleet will be under the direction of Commander Service Force, Pacific Fleet (Fleet Maintenance Office) who will entertain requests from Type, Force and Area Commanders for other camouflage measures which may be considered desirable to meet changing conditions or special tactical situations.
